Durrington Annual Parish Meeting 2024 Is A Huge Success

I wish to thank all those community minded residents who attended the APM; over 100 residents and 10 exhibitors attended.

It was a good opportunity for residents to meet their Councillors, discuss their concerns and ask questions of local organisations at the exhibition stands: There were 10 stands; Women’s Institute, Durrington Youth Team, Bakehouse Mental Health Group, Short Mat Bowls, Durrington Link, Wiltshire Walking, the Stonehenge Trader, Durrington Walls Wind Band, the Stonehenge Visitor Centre, and Stonehenge WHS were in attendance.

My thanks go to all who made this meeting so positive, especially all the helpers and the refreshments that were served by Sue Paines and her willing team of volunteers.

Residents who attended the APM.

I opened the evening by introducing the stands and the Councillors. I, as Chairman, then presented a report on the extra work the Town Council have completed this year up and beyond their statutory requirements.

  • Structural repairs to village hall, including hall floor
  • New Access for Fire Safety Door for Durrington Amateur Dramatics Society
  • New fire door from Library to stage area
  • Refenced Avon Fields Amenity Area
  • Major Ground works and fencing to reduce erosion at the bend in the river near Yew Tree Close
  • Repaired Major Water Leak to the Village Hall
  • New Hard Standing for lower entrance to Recreation Ground
  • Electronic Remote Heating Controls (to reduce bills!)
  • Replacement Speed Indicator Devices
  • Supported the installation of new Yellow Lines
  • Tennis Courts Cleaned
  • Pavilion Changing Room Floors Renewed

I also thanked the Library Volunteers whose efforts were rewarded by an increase in visitor numbers.

Phil Harding from Wessex Archaeology.

Phil Harding from Wessex Archaeology then excelled as he captivated the audience with a stunning 50 minute presentation on his Archaeological finds in Bulford.

The feedback to myself about Phil's Talk and the overall event was most positive and it was delightful to sense the feeling of pride in our village.
